GROWING UP
Being raised out in Amish country in Pennsylvania does not expose one to the culture, richness & diversity that goes along with big city life. After moving to CT at the age of 8 with his mother, Jeff G was exposed to a whole different world. "I practically was raised by my aunt & uncle. We were poor so my mom worked 3 jobs & that meant she was never around." Jeff G' s uncle was actually Eddie
Jobson, a talented keyboard aficionado & violinist who got
his start with Roxy Music. He then became a part of Jethro Tull & then YES co-writing "Owner of a Lonely Heart." "I remember when he was with Jethro Tull for Aqualung, it really made me turn an ear onto music & music gear - I remember him always showing me stuff on the keyboards."
WAKE UP CALL
Fast forward to 1992, "after putting 3 tape decks together & trying to make mixes on my mom's stereo, I realized something" Jeff said. "I enjoyed trying to do this - trying to synchronize songs together & stuff. I got my first gig in 1995 at Ivy in Banksville, NY. I didn't work there or anything but that was the first time I tried to mix one song into another. The DJ there was complaing about stuff but I thought he had the greatest job in the world & I wanted to be like him."
THEN & NOW
Currently, you can catch Jeff G at his weekly residency @ Grand in Stamford,CT every Friday night. "Grand has one of the top booths I've ever worked in & probably the best by far around CT. The booth is an instrument the DJ plays & if not "tuned" or laid out correctly, the DJ doesn't sound right." Soon many promoters have picked up an ear for
Jeff's style "I like to play a lot of stuff with percussions & horns in it as well as older house such as Masters at Work, Cevin Fisher or Blaze."
To date, he has worked off & on since that day in '95 at numerous venues such as:
DUVET - NYC
CAFE ANTICO - MT Kisco, NY
VAPOR - NYC
FALUKA - NYC
FLO - NYC
LIQUID - Norwalk, CT
EGO - Norwalk, CT
PALLADIUM - New Rochelle, NY
92.7WLIR - Long Island, NY
DUBLIN PUB - New Hyde Park, NY
Along with numerous local clubs also. "I don't even really see this as work - I haven't worked along anyone well known & haven't produced anything either - funny thing is I don't even do this full time but people keep coming back."
